Canis lupus occidentalis, or the Northwestern Gray Wolf is also called the Alaskan wolf, Canadian Timber Wolf and Mackenzie Valley Wolf. It is the largest subspecies of wolf. Its coat is black, white, gray, tan and even blue-ish and silver. They stand 30 - 38 inches at the shoulder and average between 100 - 145 pounds, but in Northern Alberta the wolves larger than average can reach 180 - 200 pounds. Their pawprints are 5 - 6 1/2 inches long on average. The Northwestern Gray inhabits the western States, western Canada and Alaska. The territory averages to 600 square miles. The Northwestern Gray eats hooved creatures, small mammals and fish.
